I’m Sorry
by Mayra Salinas
I’m sorry that I didn’t tell you
how much I loved you every day.
I’m sorry I would do things
that made you mad or sad.
I’m sorry I wasn’t a perfect daughter,
but furthermore…
I’m sorry that I never got
to see you smile again.
I’m sorry that I never got to get
another kiss or hug from you.
I’m sorry that I will never get to hear
you tell me “Congratulations” when I graduate,
or “Give me my grandchild,”
and see you give my child a kiss or hug.
I’m sorry that our lives turned out this way, Daddy.
But most of all,
I’m sorry that you never got to hear me tell you
how much I loved you and admired you,
and how you were the best Dad
a girl could have.
