Getting Ready for the Wedding
by Maria, 5th grade
“Mommy, Mommy, when is it time for the wedding?” I asked as the beautician was doing my hair slowly.
My sister said, “If you mess up during the ceremony, it would be your fault and everyone will detest you.”
“Don’t worry about me, worry about yourself,” I said.
The beautician took more time with my hair than my sister. I couldn’t wait to go see my sparkling light brown hair. My hair smelled of fresh gel and hairspray and was a as crisp as crystal. After my hair was finished, my mom said to put on my David’s Bridal dress. So I did. I also put on my cream-like colored shoes to match my dress. I wonder if this will be exciting I thought.
My mother helped put on my pearl necklace. “Maria! Come here so I can put on your earrings quickly.”
“But I don’t want to!” I responded. “I hate it when you have to stick the needle in my ear.”
My mom ultimately won the argument as she jammed the earring painfully into my ear. I put on my fur coat and we left for the wedding.
