First Day
by Jorge
All eyes were on me when I was presented. I remember her saying, “Good morning, girls and guys. We have a new student, please welcome him.”
I had all eyes on me, which made me feel shy. Some eyes tried to frighten me and that frustrated me. “Hey, my name is Jorge and I come here from California,” I said.
It was the worst day of my life, new teens, new teachers and the worst of all, new rules. This day seemed to be one of my longest days of all my life.
The day went on and kept going slower for me. Finding my classes was the hard part. I felt really mad not knowing where to go, it was the worst day. At the beginning I felt kind of shy asking people were my classes were, but I had to do it even though that frustrated me.
As the day passed by I said, “Please God, make it go fast.” Everyone frustrated me at the time, which made me not want to come back here the next day. That day I thought how teens feel when they have to go somewhere where they have never been before and have to meet new people.
That wasn’t all, the day continued and in every class I would get a worksheet full of rules. I hated those rules. It seemed like if I were at a military camp where if you did anything wrong, you had to do push ups and sit-ups. I had to follow these new rules, which I really didn’t like and wasn’t used to. I wondered if my second day would be better.
Time to leave home came and I was very happy it was all over now. That was my first day at a school in Chicago, Illinois.
