Water! Water! I Need Water

by Johnathan, 4th grade

In our classroom we have been learning about water.  First came the oceans and pollution then came the drinks.  We tasted six different types of water: salt water, tap water, water with alum, carbonated water, water with lemon and sugar water.  Salt water, water with alum, carbonated water and lemon water were all spit out into a cup.  Some of us fell on the floor because it tasted gross.

We learned that unsuitable water may not be good for us, but it can be good for other stuff like watering gardens.  I know that all living creatures including humans need water to survive.  Some people die because the water they drink is dirty.

We watched a video featuring Jay-Z.  In it, he went to Africa to help people get clean water.  He donated money to them so they could get clean water and have fun at the same time.  There are new “play pumps” that are like merry-go-rounds that pump clean water from the well.  The kids were really happy and they had fun.  It’s easy to see what water can be.  It can be the difference between life and death.  Water has to be clean to be healthy and support life.  Though water is not always free, it is worth it.  Oh, I’m telling you it is worth it!  You can help by using less water.  So think before you let the water run.  You can save lives.
