The Big, Fat, Ugly F

by Marieli, 6th grade

It was a Friday afternoon, and my eyes were as red as a vampire’s, I was so tired.  When I walked into the classroom, I saw all the students exchanging a look of doom.  We were having a math quiz!  I didn’t study for it.  Right there at that exact moment, I knew I was going to get a Big F!

When the teacher handed us the test, I swore I heard 31 gulps at the same time.  Of course, no one in my class studied, and it was obvious.  We had 45 minutes to finish because it was 50 hard problems.  In my head, I was thinking to myself, how was I going to pass?

I had made it halfway and there were only 15 minutes left!! UGH!!  I had to do 24 more math problems.  I wanted to scream because all the pressure was getting to me.  My classmates were almost done.

Right there, I stopped.  I started guessing.  Then I saw the clock.  Five more minutes!  How was I going to finish 15 more problems in 5 minutes?  I guessed until I got to the last one.  It was the hardest and it counted the most.  There was no time or a reason to guess.  I looked at the boy’s paper who sat next to me.  I was thinking in my head, “Don’t do it!” and “Go for it!”  Part of me wanted to cheat, but part of me didn’t.  I could hear all my classmates talking.  I wanted to join.  One more minute!

I grabbed the boy’s paper and he saw me.  “Teacher, she was trying to cheat!” he said.  My teacher grabbed my test.  She ripped it and I knew I got The Big Fat Ugly F and a zero!  How mad I was!  I got in trouble, but at least I learned my lesson that day: Never cheat from the boy sitting next to you.  Also, study for your test and never go to sleep late even if you don’t know you will have a test the next day.  Finally, don’t listen to the devil inside of you!
