This Was a Big Duh!by Lan AnhThe Simpson family could possibly be the most popular animated family on TV. After 20 years on television, the Simpsons finally take it to the big screen in The Simpsons Movie. I have to admit that I had once enjoyed the show myself, but it grew to become a drag and the movie is no different. The jokes are ridiculous and the writers expect us to find it funny. The movie is simply not worth watching. Instead of adopting an ordinary dog, Homer, being his normal and idiotic self, adopts a pig, which eventually causes him to accidentally pollute a lake in Springfield. Why am I not surprised? Like the episodes of the show, Homer causes some sort of trouble, which has far-reaching effects on others. The U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) then finds out that Springfield is hazardous because of the pollution in the water. The boss of the EPA, Russ Cargil, decides to destroy Springfield by putting a dome over it to isolate it from the rest of the world. When the city of Springfield discovers that Homer caused the pollution in the lake, they form a mob to attack Homer and his family. The family finds a way to evacuate from the dome and flees to Alaska. In order to save Springfield, the Simpson family faces the same old obstacles similar to what they face in the weekly television show. There is nothing special about the movie; it’s just an episode stretched out into about 90 minutes. The Simpsons’ way of dealing with problems is predictable and that gets dull! The storyline of the movie is basically the same as every episode on TV. There are some scenes that contain a bit of comic relief, but there are no major belly laughs. The movie does not show anything completely new happening to the Simpson family that could keep anyone entertained. Like Homer says in the movie, “Why would you pay to see something you can watch at home for free on TV?” Duh!
