Diaries of a Mayflower
by Jamie, 5th grade
8/15/1620 Dear Diary,
I am so glad that my mother bought you for me. Now I can have a friend to have with me on the Mayflower. I find it amusing that my name is May, and I’m going on the Mayflower. Mother told me to pack clothes and all my needs in a suitcase to take with me on the ship. Bye for now. Sincerely,
May Kensington
8/17/1620 Dear Diary,
I went into the forest today to sketch all the nature around me. I am going to miss England. England was always my home, from birth till now. I am 11 years of age, my birthday is April 14. Wish me the best till we leave England! Sincerely,
May Kensington
8/20/1620 Dear Diary,
Today I met a strange boy in the forest. He was running and was in dirty rags. He was also barefoot, and I don’t know how he didn’t hurt his feet on all the sticks. I hope that on the Mayflower, I will find a girl my age to play with. Mother just called me for supper. I will write again! Sincerely,
May Kensington
8/25/1620 Dear Diary,
Last night I just had the oddest dream: I was walking through the forest until I find an odd looking tree. I stroke it’s trunk with my fingers, it feels bumpy and tough. Suddenly, I heard a noise behind me, it’s the strange boy! He gently took my hand and led me deeper into the forest, when we came upon a beautiful garden full of colorful flowers and grass and a cherry tree with ripe cherries on it in the center of it all, and oh, it was just so fragile and serene looking! It was truly a lovely dream, like a golden dream. I am going to look for that garden one day. Wish me luck! Sincerely,
May Kensington
8/30/1620 Dear Diary,
Today, I am bringing you with me to search for the garden. I am already pretty far past the odd tree, but wait. I think I see it! I am running, but no, it’s only some flowers. Wow, it’s getting dark soon. I better head back h- wait, which direction did I come from? I’ll write back. Bye! Sincerely,
May Kensington
9/7/1620 Dear Diary,
I am so sorry for not writing for 2 days! I was in such a panic, I couldn’t find you! Luckily, you were beneath the bushes. I am still lost among the forest. I have tried one path, but I think it just led me even deeper. What am I going to do now? I was looking for a beautiful garden, but it turns out that I am lost! Wish me luck in finding my way back home and to find the garden someday. Bye! Sincerely,
May Kensington
9/10/1620 Dear Diary,
Mother’s birthday is in 2 days! I am so tired and I feel so lost in my own world. I am also extremely hungry and thirsty, my throat feels so- wait- is that the odd tree? I am sprinting as fast as my bare feet can go. It IS the odd tree! I see the village! There are mother and father! I have to sign off right now! Bye! Sincerely,
May Kensington
