Not a Normal Day After all!

by Joeaum

On September 8th I woke up and thought it was going to be an ordinary first day of school but it wasn’t. I also thought President Obama’s speech wasn’t going to be good (wrong again!). When my teacher, Ms. Park turned on the television for us to watch Obama’s speech, I never thought it would have that big of an impact on me, but it did. I loved when Obama told us to never give up.

The part of his speech that really meant a lot to me was when he challenged us to take responsibility for our success into our own hands. He told us that J.K. Rowling (the author of the Harry Potter series) never gave up trying to get her book published. I realized that if I do well in school and never give up; I could the best student in school. I really liked when Obama said to never give up. When he said there’s no excuse to not try your best in school, I felt really important. It was like we had something in common. He made me a better thinker and a better person. Thank-you President Obama!
