The Speech

by Muhammad

President Obama’s speech on September 8, 2009 inspired me. They motivated me. His words made me learn that failure can become success if I can learn from my mistakes. He reminded me there is no excuse for not trying. I can do whatever I want to do in my life but I need to focus on my studies first. That day is one I will never forget in my whole life, the day that Barack Obama gave his back-to-school speech to millions of students throughout the United States of America.

I thought the first day of school would be like any other. The teacher introduces him/herself, you learn, and then you get to leave. Well, it turned out I took a very wrong guess. My guess wasn’t even accurate. The day started off with a somewhat interesting game. In this game you needed to write your name and one well thought adjective to describe yourself. Then there it was on the screen of the Smart Board: the face of Barack Obama! After a couple of mystery filled seconds the president started his inspirational speech. I was amazed with the things he said. Such as “J.K. Rowlings first Harry Potter book was rejected 12 times before it was finally published. But these people succeeded because they learned from their mistakes.” I was amazed with what Barack Obama said. It taught me to learn from my mistakes. I was shocked with what I had heard.

I started to feel like a new person, one who is able to learn from my mistakes. Barack Obama said a quote that Michael Jordon once said “I have failed over and over again and that is why I succeed.” That quote left me speechless. It made me look at things from a whole new point of view. You could fail millions of times, but if you learn from your mistakes it wouldn’t worsen you. It would only make you better. The fate of your life is in your own hands. You choose what you should do and what you shouldn’t do. This is how Barack Obama’s speech inspired me. It made me have a whole new point of view. It made me try to at least learn from my mistakes. Lastly it made learn a very important lesson. Do not quit.
