Why Wear Uniforms?

by Tori, 7th grade

Has it ever crossed your mind that CPS should not make students wear uniforms?  Well, my thought is I think that schools should not make students wear uniforms because the colors are too plain.  People like to get dressed up on special occasions and people don’t want to put on the same thing every day.
One reason I mentioned is that the colors are plain.  For example, students prefer different colors like red, pink, green and many more. The uniform colors probably aren’t their favorite colors either.  The uniforms don’t even have designs in them. They don’t have any spice.

The second reason is that students like to get dressed up on special occasions.  For example, students want to wear what they want on their birthday.  The schools make us wear uniforms to dances.  Shouldn’t students be allowed to wear what they want to dances?  They also make students wear blue and white to field trips.

My third and final reason is that students don’t want to put on the same thing every day.  For example; they don’t want to wear white and blue every day.  The white shirts get dirty because students wear them Monday through Friday.  Students like to wear their own clothes every day instead of uniforms.  I know that teachers don’t want to wear uniforms every day.

I feel strongly, that CPS should not make students wear uniforms every day because uniforms and students don’t mix.  When asked about uniforms, one adult commented, “Definitely not.  Kids should be able to express their individuality as long as  the clothes are appropriate for their age”.  I agree with that.
