The Halloween Nightmare
by Alex, 5th grade
There were two brothers whose names were Ricky Michaels and Chad Michael Michaels. They were from San Diego and were moving to the town of Naperville. They were both going to attend 5th grade at Jahn Elementary school. They both loved to play sports but couldn’t make friends because they were nerds and nobody liked them.
The first day of school was a drag for Ricky and Chad. As always there were bullies who messed around with them. Everyone teased them because they were the new smart kids. The Michaels brothers did everything to fit in with everyone else. During lunch, Ricky and Chad overheard from their classmates that there was a haunted house on Elm Street just a block away from Ricky and Chad’s house. The abandoned haunted house was believed to be home of crazy supernatural beings. Ricky and Chad decided that in order for them to fit in with their classmates they had to do something wild and dangerous and this was their chance to prove that they weren’t just some nerds from San Diego.
So they went up to the bullies who picked on them and told them if they wanted to make a deal. The Michaels brothers told them if they went inside the haunted house on Halloween day, the bullies couldn’t pick and them anymore and had to accept them in everything they do. After that Ricky and Chad felt tough but they soon realized that they had just made a huge mistake.
Ricky and Chad asked everyone the following week if they knew any old myths of the house on Elm Street. Many said that the walls were filled with blood. Others said that there were ghosts and demons that lived inside. Others even said that people had gone inside the house but never came out again. This really got the Michaels brothers scared and they were having second doubts about the whole crazy idea, but they knew they had to get through this in order for them to fit in with the rest of their classmates.
It was Halloween and everyone was out trick-or-treating with scary costumes. Ricky and Chad’s classmates came around 5 o’clock so they could go walk to the house on Elm Street. Once they got there, the bullies told them they had to stay in there for one whole hour or the deal was off. They quietly opened the gate. There was a terrible shout in the distance. Sweat poured down Ricky and Chad’s faces. They went inside and the door slams behind them with a loud bang.
The house was filled with old furniture and paintings that scattered around the floor. There were spider webs all over the walls and there was a very bad smell coming from the second floor. So the boys went upstairs to explore the house. Once they got to the second floor, blood started oozing out of the walls. The boys screamed in terror. They ran downstairs to get out of the house but the door was solid shut. There was no way out for them to escape. Suddenly they heard a voice on an intercom. In a chilling voice, the man said “I want to play a game. You have one hour to find a key hidden inside the house. With the key, you can open the door and escape to freedom. If you fail to do so, you will be trapped forever! You may begin.”
They boys running with fear decided to split up to cover more ground to find the missing key. Ricky entered a room filled with a variety of strange, scary toys. He starts throwing everything around to find the key. But suddenly there was an evil laugh that comes from behind him and there was a clown starring at him. He screamed with terror and left the room in a jiffy. Somewhere in the distance Chad entered a room with old paintings. He looked behind every painting and discovered that there was a safe behind one of them, he opens it and there was the key. He runs out of the door and shouts for his brother to meet him downstairs so they can escape. Minutes passed and there was no sign of Billy. Chad becomes scared and went out looking for him. He found him unconscious on the ground with his head busted open. He dragged him to the front door and heard the awful voice count”10….9….8….7 seconds” left. Chad opened the door in time and carried Michael out safely.
Chad carried Ricky and they walked home so they could call the ambulance to get help for Ricky. The ambulance came for Ricky a few minutes later and they said he was going to be okay. The next day at school, everyone surrounded them and asked them to tell them their awesome story of what had happened inside the haunted house. The Michaels brothers decided to keep everything to themselves because they couldn’t bear relive their terrifying moment in life. The Michaels brothers soon became the most popular kids in school but no one still knows what happened inside the abandoned house on Elm Street.
